Charlie Siem ist Soloviolinist. Er ist gerade mal Anfang 30, hochbegabt, smart, sieht blendend aus und stammt aus einer Milliardärsfamilie. Er hat Fans weltweit und neben seiner Karriere auf den Konzertbühnen der Welt auch noch Erfolg als Model für Hugo Boss, Armani und Co. Das Leben scheint es sehr gut mit ihm zu meinen, nur zufrieden scheint Charlie nie zu sein.
Getrieben von den eigenen hohen Ansprüchen pendelt er zwischen ausverkauften Konzerten und den Häusern in Monte Carlo, London und Florenz hin und her. Immer auf der fast schon verzweifelten Suche nach Perfektion und dem Platz ganz oben, hadert er mit sich und seiner Position in der Welt. Dabei überwältigen ihn existentielle Fragen: Wofür lohnt es sich zu leben, wenn es nach außen scheint, als habe man schon alles? Wie werde ich erfolgreich und glücklich? Wie gelingt es, einem übermenschlichen Erwartungsdruck standzuhalten, der teils von außen und teils nur aus ihm selbst heraus auf ihm lastet?
Mit enormem Feingefühl blickt die vielfach preisgekrönte dänische Regisseurin Eva Mulvad in eine Welt der Reichen und Schönen, die uns meist verborgen bleibt. Mit vielen Nuancen webt sie ein beeindruckend filigranes und vielschichtiges Porträt eines jungen Mannes auf der Suche nach der Perfektion.

Charlie Siem has everything: a career as a classical violinist with sold-out concerts around the world and golden offers from the leading fashion houses, using him as a model in their international campaigns. On the surface it looks like the perfect life. But behind his photogenic looks, we meet a man who is trying to navigate his many options. What is the definition of a good career? How do you become the best version of yourself? And how do you create a life that meets both the outside world’s as well as your own high conceptions of happiness and success? For Charlie, this is not easy. The demands are high when every detail counts and only the perfect is good enough.
The film is a portrait of a typical 21st century man. An existential journey into a world of expectations and choices. A story about us – the free and wealthy – who seem to have it all but are always on the hunt for more.
