LOVE ALONE CAN’T MAKE A CHILD

LOVE ALONE CAN’T MAKE A CHILD chronicles the love story and emotional odyssey of Maria and Christiane who, for over a decade, have been trying to fulfil their desire of giving birth to a child of their own. The director, a childhood friend of Maria, lovingly narrates the couple’s journey, showcasing their resilience in the face of ever-increasing challenges, and the intricate dynamics of a relationship under tremendous strain. More than anything else, the film continually pursues what love means in a long-term romantic relationship.

Judith Beuth was born in Thuringia and grew up in East Berlin. After a brief study of cultural sciences and various internships in the film industry, she worked for a year in 2004 at “Zirkus Upsala” in St. Petersburg, Russia. Until 2012, she studied film directing at the HFF “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam-Babelsberg. During her studies, she realized short and medium-length documentaries and short films that were shown at numerous festivals. A significant experience during this time was the shooting of the documentary film DACH OHNE HAUS in Tehran in collaboration with Iranian film students, as well as working on the film SAIDA UND DER SCHNEE as part of a documentary film workshop with Helga Reidemeister. This encounter led to a collaboration on her last film project in 2015. In 2018, she received an artist grant from the Senate Department for Culture and Europe for LOVE ALONE CAN’T MAKE A CHILD; it is Judith Beuth’s first feature-length documentary.
